Email to Kate Ruttiman from Rebecca Barrigos, 6th November 2024.

Dear Kate,

I refer to your letter of 30 October 2024.

Firstly, please advise by return email whether the QTU Executive, by that letter, are summoning me to a meeting of the Executive or merely inviting me to attend in the sense that my non-attendance would not be in breach of Rule 3.3(a)(viii).

However, whether your letter is a summons or a mere invitation, I will attend the proposed meeting on 8 November 2024.

Secondly, I refer to the duty of the Executive under Rule 3.3(b) of the Rules of our Union. The proposed meeting, if the Executive has not prejudged the various ill-defined poorly articulated complaints appears to be an investigation within the meaning or Rule 3.3(b) of our Union.

Therefore, in accordance with that Rule of our Union it is the Executive’s duty, and I demand it honour that duty, to provide me with copies of every allegation or complaint, including a copy of the “resolution from an area council”. Please provide copies of these documents under cover of the return email referred to above, by no later than 4pm Thursday 7 November 2024.

Thirdly, when I attend the meeting with the Executive on 8 November I will, in detail, explain to the Executive why:-

a. I have no case to answer in respect to any purported offence under the Rules of our Union; and

b. the Executive should respect my right of free speech; and

c. The criticisms referred to in your letter are valid and legitimate and should cause the Executive and State Council to change its approach to the affairs of our Union.

Yours faithfully,

Bec Barrigos
